David Kaminski
Conductor

Special appearances by some of the Sharon schools' talented music teachers, John Coffey, Lisa Gilman, and Ted Greely, and the Roy Scott Big Band will feature vocalist Ruth Debrot. Young children will be encouraged to come on stage and meet the instruments in an "Instrument Petting Zoo".

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students and seniors and help support the Sharon's Bands' annual music program. For more information, call 508-789-0159 or email info@sharonbands.org.

Composed of more than 50 musicians, the bands draw talented amateurs not only from Sharon and surrounding towns, but throughout greater Boston and Rhode Island. The musicians' ages range from 14 to 80 years old, but they all share high quality musicianship. New musicians, and old musicians returning to their instruments, are always welcomed.

"I am very excited about our 15th anniversary season" said David Kaminski, Music Director for the Sharon Community Bands. "The dedication of this group to creating quality music is personally rewarding, and the results are enthusiastically received by our audiences. Sustaining a high level of performance for 15 seasons is a milestone of which the bands, as well as the community, should be proud".

The three formal concerts which comprise the season series include:

  • Winter Concert (December 15, 2002) - The "serious" concert in the series, featuring a diverse, challenging program highlighting the range and capabilities of the bands.
  • Kid's Koncert (March 2, 2003) - A program of fun and familiar favorites for kids of all ages, focused on sharing the group's love of music with the next generation of musicians.
  • Pops Concert (May 4, 2003) - A wide range of popular standards and new compositions delivers a crowd-pleasing, toe-tapping good time for all.

In addition to the concert series, the bands also perform outdoors in the summer at venues throughout southeastern Massachusetts.

Band membership is open to all musicians willing to make a serious commitment to rehearse and perform a challenging repertoire, with no formal audition required to play.

Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings, 7:15 pm at Sharon High School. For more information on joining the bands, and the upcoming concert schedule, email info@sharonbands.org, or call Alan at 781-784-6585.
