At this year's annual Kids' Concert, The Sharon Community Bands will present a fun-filled FREE concert for kids of all ages, featuring performances by:

The Sharon Community Concert Band
Cast Members from the upcoming Sharon Middle School Musical "The Music Man"
Members of the Sharon Middle School Band
Music Faculty from the Sharon Middle School
The Roy Scott Big Band

In addition to entertaining and familiar music by the Sharon Community Concert Band and Roy Scott Big Band, we are very pleased that this year's concert will feature 6th, 7th and 8th grade cast members of the upcoming Sharon Middle School musical, "The Music Man!" These talented kids will perform a number of well-known numbers from the upcoming show that will run from March 25th through March 28th. In addition, the Sharon Community Concert Band will be joined on stage by members of the Sharon Middle School Band.

The concert, which will be conducted by Music Director David Kaminski, is geared especially to children of all ages, and features an instrument "petting zoo" at the end of the concert where kids can come on stage and meet the musicians and their instruments. Admission is free for adults and children, and free refreshments will be served during intermission (donations will be accepted - portions of which go to the Sharon Community Bands' Annual Student Scholarship Fund).

This presentation is supported in part by the Sharon Cultural Council, a local agency, through the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

About the Sharon Community Bands

The Sharon Community Concert Band and Roy Scott Big Band are comprised of more than 50 talented amateur musicians not only from Sharon and surrounding towns but throughout the greater Boston and South Shore area communities. The bands perform a number of local concerts throughout the year.

"I am very excited about this new season" said David Kaminski, Music Director for the Sharon Community Bands. "The dedication of this group to creating quality music is personally rewarding, and the results are enthusiastically received by our audiences. Sustaining such a high level of performance into their 16th year is a milestone of which the bands, as well as the community, should be proud".

The three planned formal concerts which comprise the Fall/Winter/Spring season series include:

Winter Concert (Sunday, November 23, 2003, 2:00pm) - the "serious" concert in the series, featuring a diverse, challenging program highlighting the range and capabilities of the bands. The theme for this year's concert is "Music of the World".
Kids Concert (Sunday, March 7, 2004, 2:00pm) - a program of fun and familiar favorites for kids of all ages, focused on sharing the group's love of music with the next generation of musicians. This year's Kids Concert will feature a preview by Sharon Middle School children of their upcoming musical, "The Music Man!"
Annual Spring Pops Concert (Saturday, May 22, 2004, 7:00pm) - a wide range of popular standards and new compositions is sure to deliver a crowd-pleasing, toe-tapping good time for all.

In addition to the concert series, the bands also perform outdoors in the summer at venues throughout southeastern Massachusetts. Band membership is open to all musicians willing to make a serious commitment to rehearse and perform a challenging repertoire, with no formal audition required to play.
